I have a 100% VA rating and I was wondering if anyone knows how hard it is to get diapers from the VA?
I will be discussing PMD with my doctor tomorrow, and I will just tell her I’m comfortable with diapers. I’m also gonna bring up my herniated discs and see if they have anything to do with my dribble.
just that talk to the Dr they put a scrip in with Va supply and they are on you doorstep a week later they have have been sending Abena diapers for me for 2 years now
Gotcha thank you. I read somewhere that I can get the molicare’s as well. Have you heard that? Or are the Abeena’s better? I’ve heard their quality is going in the wrong direction.
Well, we talked about the dribble. I brought up PMD because of the conversation with my dad, as well as my herniated discs. She doesn’t think it’s the disc, and she did my PSA’s. Depending on the PSA results, she will send me to a urologist. She said not to worry about the urologist, my records state I wear and prefer diapers. She also said the urologist could help with finding the right diaper if I needed help. I’m guess that meant pull up versus brief, but don’t know.
Can anyone help me with the VA pharmacy? I have Tricare Prime because I’m a retiree. So how do I get medication, or hopefully soon, diapers from the VA?
Tricare prime doesn’t cover diapers, especially for “dribbles”. After numerous tests/appointments, they will determine your “need”. If needed don’t expect great, and if you think they’ve never heard of ABDL think again.
The VA will provide diapers if your doctor prescribes them. That is the only way. Then, they will offer you bottom of the barrel crap like Kendal Wings. Then you want something better, and you better be a self-advocate. You must say that what they provide is harming your health (constant leaks, rashes, etc.) Then they start sending you Confidry. Tell them what diaper works for you, and don’t take no for an answer. Use the patient advocate if needed. Win.
Well, I had my first telephone consult with my VA care provider today. I sent her a message beforehand explaining that I wear diapers for comfort. She replied saying no issues and that my choice of undergarment was up to me.
So today she asked the Normal questions and then if I had any concerns. I told her that I need to go to the bathroom a lot during the day, and sometimes it’s as if I need to run. I also told her about my dribbles and that the front of my I underwear always seems damp. She asked if I felt I was emptying my bladder and I said no, not all the time. She then asked if that’s the reason why I wear diapers. Every other doctor calls them briefs, but she called them diapers. I told her that partly yes, but that the main reason why I wear them is because I think they are comfortable. I then told her that I wanted to transition to only wearing diapers.
She didn’t even hesitate and said, ok that’s no problem. She ordered me a bladder test, PSA screening and other blood work. I said I was nervous that they wouldn’t take my bladder issues seriously because I wear diapers, and she said nope, not to worry about it.
I talked to her about my records showing that I wear diapers, and that my other primary doctor doesn’t feel it’s necessary to enter it. She was ok putting a statement in there that patient wears incontinance products. So I can relax during my bladder test. She said to come in dry, with a full bladder so they can measure they can take measurements.
This is all going so well. Pretty soon I won’t have to worry about the doctors seeing my diapers.
I haven’t been diagnosed with anything. Right now my provider just knows that I want to wear diapers. I’m on the list for a bladder test, but nothing else.
My doctor prescribed me Attends Pull-Ups. I asked if she could switch to the tabbed because the pull-ups leak. She asked if I was wetting on purpose and said she ethically can’t prescribe diapers unless there is a medical need. I just completed my journal and I think I’ll be seeing a urologist.
