Using adult pacifiers openly in public. Thoughts?

Hey everyone, I was just curious as to y’alls thoughts on using an adult paci in public. I use my pacifier for comfort and because I have severe TMJ. A lot of the times, my jaw either with clench without my noticing, or it will get so bad that my teeth start to slightly chatter (it’s really weird and uncomfortable). The more stressed I am, the worse my pain and clenching is. I was wondering if it would be…idk weird for me to use my paci in public (not at work of course). I often try to keep my tongue or sometimes my thumb between my teeth so that I’m not in pain or clenching my teeth. I usually just end up biting my tongue or getting grossed out by how germy my hands probably are so those aren’t the greatest methods for me. I don’t want to end up on PeopleofWalmart, but I think it would be beneficial and help me with my jaw pain if I could run errands with a paci in. It sounds silly, but whenever I’m home my paci is in 24/7 and it soothes my pain (physically and mentally). I’m guess I’m just looking for reassurance and maybe support. My jaw is killing me, especially lately, and I can barely open it without it getting stuck, cracking/popping, hurting badly, or getting lockjaw. I wear a retainer and use my paci at night, which has helped me to stop grinding and clenching (according to my husband as well as my lack of pain in the morning lol). I clench a LOT during the day so I figured that if I used a paci it would solve that problem. So sorry for the long post but I appreciate any help!

***TLDR: How do I use my paci in public for my severe TMJ without ending up on Reddit or PeopleofWalmart to be tormented and humiliated? ***

I understand you don’t want to be gawked at, humiliated, or look like you’re on whichever elicit drug makes your ears pop. Ah, what to say? What to say? At the point it starts helping you with diagnosed stuff, it ain’t for 18+ stuff. I do get the wanting private matters to stay that way, though.

Hmm. . . Would chewelery, or a chewy stick help? They’re less conspicuous. http://www.chewstixx.com/chew-stixx.html

I’ve seen some people using paci under effects of metamfetamin and similars.

But honestly, in my case using paci in public is social suicide.

That’s not a bad idea honestly. I appreciate the thoughtful reply

I had been to many rave’s before and pacifiers were common. I wouldn’t use one in public either.

Hi Fawn,

I’d love it if our modern society had the ability to mind it’s own freaking business. I may be a Little, but even I know that will never be the norm in my lifetime. Heck, I live in an area where same sex couples get the stink-eye and intolerant remarks for doing something as innocent as holding hands in public, and this is in a college town.

So even though you have a legitimate reason for using one when you’re out and about, your pysche couldn’t handle the constant scorn.

I know you’d prefer using a paci, but have you considered using a bite guard when you’re out and about? It wouldn’t have as much to suckle on as a paci would, but I do think it would give you relief from your TMJ. Your paci won’t think you’re cheating on it because it knows it’s still #1.

Don’t. Consider getting a mouthguard for during the day. It’ll also probably be more effective. I wear one at night for clenching and grinding and spoke to my dentist and am considering getting one for during the day as well

Bite guards are too big for my mouth and they hurt my jaw, that is if they even fit, which most of them don’t :disappointed:. I hate society…ugh

The ones in the store don’t fit at all :disappointed:. My dentist said the only ones that would really work are custom and I don’t have thousands of dollars to spend on one bc my insurance won’t cover it…

ElPulpo, why so shocked? O.P., there’s a company called Ark, that makes chew sticks too.

I’ve used one while driving. It all depends on you. People will give you finish looks but that will be the most often response. I remember seeing people using candy pacifiers when I was younger. I also thought I noticed a girl driving with one the other day. Caught my eye but that was it. I think it only caught my eye beanie I thought it was attractive.

You could wear a face mask and suck on it underneath.

Just dont do it. It’s bad for you and inappropriate for everyone else. You risk social suicide and what will friends and family think? You dont NEED it. You WANT it.

being ABDL in public is highly inappropriate and a pacifier is part of it.

I get your point, but at the same time, ‘being in public’ means obeying the prevailing social conventions… more or less. it isnt always your ‘right’ to defy the social conventions in a major way. Everyone else has a right to NOT see it as well.

It is always a complex argument with competing sides.

I feel your pain. I too love pa I and suckle her whenever I can. I do have adult children living at home so its bv basically when I’m alone (not necessarily as often as I I like) I do use her in the car when driving alone. i find it very soothing and relaxing. However, using it in public paces I think I wr would feel very uncomfortable.

I hear you. I understand. I have never, and would never, use my paci in public, but, I’ve also never had my jaw lock up, anywhere but home. Oh my gosh, it hurts! May it never publicly happen. At some point, it’s the public’s right not to look.

Fawn, dear, go straight up the middle. Get yourself some Ark Theraputic chewelery, and/or a chew stick, and you’ll be just fine.

What about something like this youth sports mouth guard? Maybe you can cut off the strap on the front. It’s not a paci but it should both cushion your choppers andgive you something to suckle on.

this sissy uses a pacifier in public all the time, and think nothing of it,…honestly, most people aren’t paying attention, and those who do, maybe are familiar with the ‘little’ lifestyle, or may be a ‘little’ themselves. this sissy has been questioned about it, i will say, (with my heavy lisp) it soothes my gums since all my teeth have been removed.
