Tips for managing in College

Hi everyone I’m relatively new to this but I’ve always had problems with wetting the bed at night/ nighttime incontinence and got significantly worse after I was assaulted. I also noticed that since going to school it’s gotten worse to the point where my roommate mentioned something. I wore goodnights/ nighttime underwear until I was about 13. I was wondering if you guys have any tips. On how to handle new roommates(my roommate next year is a good friend) and what to wear at night as I am older and not sure what to get.

Firstly let your college know you have a medical problem (Nocturnal Enuresis) and will need mattress protection. As to how you deal with it, there are various ways, from disposable good quality (or medical) nappies and waterproof pants (especially if you are a side sleeper. you can also get disposable bed pads, (they are for children) but work well with adults especially those with adhesive corners or strips on them. /the other alternative is what I do which is use a good quality nappy (vivactive in my case) with a washable bed pad over the sheets in case of leaks. i find in the summer waterproof pants get too hot.

As for your room-mate, whilst it can be a difficult and embarrasing conversation to have, be honest and open, if he is a good friend he should accept your explanation and the reason you need to use protection.

Finally while nappies sound a bit like overkill, pull ups may cause more problems than they cause.

Whatever happens I wish you luck, but bed wetting shouldn’t hold you back and channces are you will grow out of it by the mid 20’s. It might also be worth having a word with your parents as bed-wetting can run in families.
