Suggestion Giving Rep Approval Feature

I just realized something about the rep points. If we are given points, the side of the bar shows the following,

[Report]

[Reported to Mods]

[Verified by Mods]

And if it’s not approved, it just disappears which is fine.

but how come we don’t have a similar option on this to rep points we give out. It’s pretty much chance if our rep points we give out goes through or not. Maybe something like this;

[Approved] - If it was approved by the Rep mod Nihlus

[Sent] - If your rep successfully sent.

[Waiting on approval] - If your rep gets reviewed by Nihlus (Of course this one might be a bit contradicting on this part because you might be able to see if the user reported his/her rep. Consider this one off the list if you even look into this idea.

It’s only a suggestion if something similar like this can be added. It’s perfectly fine the way it is but like I said, it’s basically a random act if rep points, for example, I give out to people who deserve them and I would never know if they got them or not by either checking back (Which will eventually get covered up by other points given) or if their name is displayed on featured posts. (Which you have a higher chance of seeing that if you have 2 or more points)

[EDIT: I also realized that maybe you would give out more than you would even notice and they would go away since you only have a slot of 6 of your most recent reps given. How about a list of rep’s you have given in the last week or so? That way you would keep track on the list of rep’s you have given afloat (At least while they are pending or so; this feature would really help those whose reps were declined in the past and always gets checked by the pizza eating Nihlus]

Hmm? Oh! No, I never mentioned this at all. This is totally new. Zipperless brought up about needing 6 rep slots instead of 5 to confirm that you need to spread around 6 more in order to deliver the rep service to the same user again in this thread: http://www.adisc.org/forum/showthread.php/87750-Reputation-given

As for me, I brought up an option to block access to users who hit the report button when a page loads up immediately to save Nihlus some time instead of checking a rep that is obviously valid since people hit report just for the hell of it.

This is a new discussion I brought up so I am confused as to where you got this idea from?

I don’t see how showing that would be an issue. Most rep that is waiting for approval was automatically moderated by the system, for one of the reasons listed here.

There is a list of all reps given by a user (much like the list of all reps you’ve received), but only staff can see it. Theoretically, it could be shown to users, but modifying the code could be a pain or Moo may have reasons why it is staff-only.

I think Marka means that she saw someone create a thread about this idea sometime in the past. I can’t recall such a thread off the top of my head, but there may have been one that I have forgotten about.

Marka is a guy??? I thought it was a girl! I am sooo sorry I called you a female all these months Marka.

It’s an idea to loosen the frustration of reps people give out and they worry whether it went thru or not. Basically, if someone gave them a neutral rep, how do you know whether it went though or not? Same for positive or neg rep? For a positive rep, they wait out of the clear blue and they constant check because a person deserves that…they would never know if it was approved or not.

As for neutral, I may understand that it is not that big of an issue like positive rep is but if a neutral rep has a reason but the msg does not go thru such as, I wonder if he got the msg or if Nihlus deleted it because it did not meet rep rules. How will you ever know?

Typo on my part, fixed. It’s been a long week.

I’m not sure if the rest of your post was specifically replying to me or not. I don’t really have an opinion one way or the other. It wouldn’t affect me currently; if I wasn’t a staff member, it might be nice to have but ultimately, I’d probably be somewhat indifferent.

Oh, I thought I did make a mistake.

I can see your POV. It was directed for everyone who has trouble waiting to see if they were accepted or not. While it’s not a major issue, it would tone down the patience of others not waiting as long as they normally would.

Three reasons:

(1) It isn’t necessary. You can see the status of incoming reps because it would be confusing if some of them had a report button, but others did not, with no explanation as to why. Since you have no reason to want to report outgoing reps, you have no need to see their status, either.

(2) The time it would take to code is better spent on other projects.

(3) The rep system is already complicated. Introducing further complexity is probably not a good thing.
