Should the Report button be used to alert mods of a thread in the wrong forum? Is that the correct way to alert a mod that a thread should be moved?
Seems like OP meant to post this thread in Introductions instead of Incontinence.

Yes. I have done it on several occasions. Most of the time it is newbies posting things that are anything but an introduction in the introduction.
I don’t think that was a newbie doing an introduction post to be fair, however the replies make it seem that way.
The way it read to me was a user who was away for awhile and was re-introducing themselves.
“Introduction” and “Incontinence” both start with the letter “I”. At a glance I can see how someone might mix up the 2 if they have poor eyesight or dyslexia or something like that.
I think that the OP knew what she was doing. Whether it’s appropriate or not is a different question.
I’ve definitely used the “Report” button to ask that my own thread be moved to a better-fitting section.
Most of the time, when you need help from the staff, you’re basically trying to answer two questions: What? and Where? The Report button addresses these pretty concisely, and I’ll suppose the staff prefer getting notified of problems this way rather than having to read through messages or forum posts. The latter make sense when some amount of discussion is anticipated, but otherwise I just Report stuff. I’ve Reported my own messed-up posts a number of times, as well as other stuff that wasn’t against the rules, but needed superpowers to fix. I haven’t gotten spanked for it yet, but there’s a first time for everything. ![]()
Can we get moderator guidance about this question? If a thread belongs, in my opinion, in a different section, do I:
use the “Report” feature to ask that it be moved, or do I
suggest to the OP that they ask for it to be moved?
If its wrong just report it.
This is a good question, can mods move threads across forums?
They can and they do, sometimes without being asked.
When I have seen this happen, I just use the **Report **button. In most cases, the post is moved as soon as a moderator can review the post.
What can be against the usage of the “Report” button:
It’s not a serious problem, I don’t want to bother the moderators with such a nuisance.
If others see nothing wrong with the post, why should I?
I don’t want to put the poster in banning or any other trouble.
The “Report” button is usable only when the post contains forbidden content or punishable behavior.
Maybe, specially for new members, it’s not clear what is the purpose of the “Report” button and what can happen when something reported.
I would not expect newbies to know about the Report button, and I feel sure that a lot do not even look at the rules until???
But I used it twice yesterday.
The first time I was some what reported myself because I said something then thought I better or should have reported it first. The thread was looked and the note from the mod was basically enough said.
The second one I was reading and the thread was high jacked and got into a situation that should have been reported to the mods and members but out. I reported the post that started it and got a thank you resolved message. I will leave it at that.
I did this on many occasions. Very useful feature.
I was thinking about this, there’s a thread in adult diapers that should really be in sexually, it would let me report individual posts but not the entire thread, I’m sure there used to be an option for that, none of the posts where bad per say, just not appropriate for that forum.
When I encounter this situation, I usually go to the first post in the thread and report that post. I then explain that I think the thread belongs in another forum.
Never had a problem with this procedure and most times the thread was moved without further involvement on my part.
While I haven’t seen it explicitly said in the rules, it’s a common rule to open new topics in the correct subforum, so by informing about a topic that doesn’t fit in a subforum we’re technically reporting it to the Staff.
This is also a better way to notify about it to all the team, for writing to only one mod wouldn’t make the info available for the rest, and also, it’s a way to keep trace of irregularities and manage them more efficiently (normally, when a report is sent, a topic is created automatically on a hidden subforum).
