anyone live in a shipping container house?
No, but it sounds appealing. Topside or below ground?
When I was in high school, I designed an underground shipping container shelter community. At the time, the USSR (remember them?) and the Cold War were still very alive and the KAL 007 shootdown had everyone on-edge, wondering what would happen next. My shelter idea had air filtration, water recycling, generator/battery/solar/wind power, community restroom and common meeting hall/rec area; after fallout had subsided to a livable level, ag programs would be attempted. It was all made from shipping containers buried underground. It got some interest at the Science Fair but I lost out to some nimnul with a baking-soda/vinegar volcano.
No, but when I read “shipping container house” in the title, I phantasized about shipping a whole container to my house. Sorry, this doesn’t belong in the off-topic section but in “Diaper talk”, although it’s actually off-topic in this thread. I just could not resist.
Underground is a terrible plan: without serious reinforcement the sides of a standard multi-modal container will collapse under the pressure of the dirt/soil against them. On the other hand, with a bit of securing (like the kind for ships) it would be an easily relocated residence.
