"Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" Soundtrack.

Anyone else have an appreciation for the movie or Soundtrack?

It was not Tarantino’s best movie but I get a kick out of the sound track as I have always listened to Oldies but had no clue of the good songs “Bring a Little Lovin’” by Los Bravos and “Good Thing” by Paul Revere and the Raiders. The soundtrack also plays radio commercials from the 60s on a Southern Cal station called “KHJ”, which were featured in scenes while Brad Pitt was driving.

I’d be curious to know if anyone alive during this time in SoCal has thoughts on the movie, soundtrack, or listening to “KHJ” in the late 60’s/early 70s.

I wasn’t born until 1988, but I thought ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ was Tarantino’s best film since ‘Jackie Brown’, but I say that because ‘Jackie Brown’ is my personal favorite of his owing to my own love for '70s black cinema; if I were to try to speak “subjectively objectively”, I’d feel it’s second only to ‘Pulp Fiction’ in his filmography. I really wasn’t a huge fan of anything Tarantino put out after the '90s, I thought he got really full of himself and started emphasizing bloated style above substance, but I think ‘OUATIH’ is a phenomenal movie worth every bit of praise (though, as a big Bruce Lee fan, I agree with those who objected to his depiction, even if it wasn’t intended to be realistic).

As far as the soundtrack, of course Tarantino is a master at song selection; it’s been a while since I’ve seen the film, and while I can’t say anything has stuck with me to the same extent that, say, “Stuck in the Middle with You” did from ‘Reservoir Dogs’, it was a perfectly evocative selection of songs which added great character and color to the film. I always hate it when I see a period film and the soundtrack is nothing more than a “greatest hits” of the era; Tarantino really knows how to select the right songs to place you firmly in his cinematic world, be them a hit or a deep cut.

Same age as me Pup! Thanks for you’re take on this. It seems like you are legit when it comes to the screen.

To be honest, I have never seen “Jackie Brown”. I will add it to my must watch list.
