Need Grown Up Clothes - Spend It All On Little Clothes...

I’ve needed grown up clothes for a while now.

Problem is whenever I go to buy some I keep getting bored by the lack of color and samey-ness of what’s out there.

I mean it *really *bores me. Especially as a guy when you’ve kinda got limited options. There’s no cuteness, everything’s so serious looking.

I heard this brilliant lyric recently that put it perfectly - “There aren’t any grown ups, just overgrown children in uglier clothes.”

I feel like there’s a mismatch with the outer grown up presentation of myself, and how I feel inside a lot of the time.

So when I’m picking out clothes it’s always easier to know what I like when I’m shopping for little me, if that makes sense?

Anybody else have this problem?

I do definitely dress like a 5 year old all the time, but its also in relation to my queer femme identity, wearing wacky clothes and vibrant dresses helps me feel whole, sometimes people dont take me seriously but when they see what I know, they are surprised honestly that someone who dresses and looks like me has accomplished some things <3 and I am never gonna change myself :3 for a job interview I will probably get a pink pant suit :grinning: I am gonna be a Highschool teacher, and I will be wearing wacky outfits lol when I teach Biology :grinning:

That’s awesome - I can already tell you’re gonna be the coolest teacher in school

I totally get what you mean about feeling whole too.

I do wear toddler-ish shirts under dark hoodies and stuff and I feel better when I do. I also have a sweet Winnie The Pooh hoodie which I *absolutely adore *~ I wear it under my jacket sometimes.

I guess I need to move to a less conservative place so I can let my little flag fly more

Hah I live in a red state in the south, so trust me I get made fun of everyday, but I learned a long time ago to never sacrifice happiness because Chad cant admit he likes being topped by grindr daddy “bigtop69” lmao, so he projects his insecurities onto me, not my concern XD

Props to ya!

Trust me, where I’m at? There aren’t even that many vibrant queers around, and the ones that fly their flag get a lot of shit for it too.

Another thing that’s missing over here is that uniquely American individualism. I remember visiting New York and being amazed at all the cool outfits people were wearing, the crazy neon mohawks and studded knee-high boots (that was a punk that offered up his seat on the subway so me and my mommy could sit together) - so nice!

But yeah, it’s a different mentality when you live on a little island on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a more… parochial mentality.

It sucks I know, and there’s nothing really stopping me from walking out my front door dressed all little. But there is a lot of cultural stuff there that makes it pretty hard to do that.

I don’t mean to say it’s not tough for you either, I think it’s awesome you can do that and I’m glad you do. I know you’re gonna inspire your students to be more open about who they are, maybe even a few ABys too!

It’s just different, you know?

It’s cool, I know you weren’t sayin’ that  Personally, I don’t buy into a lot of the privilege stuff, so don’t you dare feel guilty for having a great thing going

I guess I feel like I should be able to do the same, but hey, it is what it is.

Goddamnit I love this forum.

Where do all these lovely people come from?

I kind of have this problem but I personally like not having too overly childish clothing to minimize the suspicions that I’m an Abdl. But this doesn’t mean I don’t like wearing colorful clothing (everything in moderation I guess). I find, for clothes at least, a lot of the streetwear brands tend to be a lot more colorful and sometimes even cute (maybe not cute enough for our standards but still). A lot of these clothes have really bright colors and have kinda like a childish vibe without being overly childish. However, it does come at a price though. I think a good example of this (and one of my personal favs) is the Kith x Columbia collab.

Heres an example of something I have been wanting from the collab and would totally rock it out in public.

I also think that shoes lately have been given more of a pass for being more child-like, such as the recent trend in “dad” shoes. So that widens the options for more childish shoes.

One of my personal fav shoes rn is the Puma RS-X Toys colorway even though I wouldn’t categorize it as a dad shoe I still think it looks super cute and cool :stuck_out_tongue: . One day imma buy them…

It comes down to how comfortable you are with pushing boundaries (and whatever flak you will get for doing it).

Basically, How may F*cks you don’t give about what the average closed minded vanilla (you will prob never see again) might think of you.

Yes, how you can “acceptably” dress in public does sadly also depend on your location, age, gender and your job/profession.

Some of these can hinder how much you are able to self express yourself in your everyday life, sometimes.

My job requires an “Office” or “Professional” look. Did it stop me from dying my hair a “non natural color”? Hell No! lol.

Granted it was subtle, but still noticeable that it was freakin purple. I actually got lots of compliments on it, from co-workers.

I wasn’t the only one either, other girls have had Pink, Blue, Red or Green hair. Some subtle, some not so much, lol.

I do feel for all the boys out there that feel a need to not dress cookie cutter boring, your clothing options are limited & do sorta suck.

Well then, you would prob look adorable in this Pink Suit

Yea guys have really limited options but im lucky enough to live in an area where its not super conservative. Lots of people my age wear colorful clothing, me sometimes included. Probably when I start actually working in a job pertaining to my major things might change though… at least right now I can enjoy this freedom of wearing whatever I feel like and nobody really bats an eye. (I don’t really care if people judge me but I also don’t like any unwanted attention)

Those are some sweet collabs. Yeah I’ve definitely noticed streetwear and brands have gotten more childlike lately. Color-block has come back in a big way. I have a real nice Teddy Fresh hoodie like that.:

I also like the Vans Old Skool Yacht Club:

I get not wanting to have *overly childish *clothing, But one piece like this paired with dark jeans could easily pass and looks good too

Here’s my Pooh hoodie I mentioned. I just stumbled upon it looking for something little I could wear and not feel like it’s s*o little. *Which is where the little Pooh on a string comes in - he goes inside the pocket - so I can take him out when I’m feeling extra little, or put him back in and *bam *- it’s just a hoodie

Super cute stuff right there. I totally forgot about teddy fresh that company makes some really cute stuff while being pretty stylish too. I was eyeing that exact color block hoodie a while back but idk why I didn’t buy it. Also I’m prob gonna put those vans in my wishlist.. and that Winnie the Pooh hoodie is absolutely adorable

Thanks! I do love it.

Yeah Teddy Fresh has great stuff. I don’t follow their podcast anymore but Hila’s certainly got an eye for cute styles.

If you’re worried, their color block hoodie’s been super popular so they re-stock it pretty often so you won’t miss out!

I know this thread is like 10 days old. And yes I agree we should be able to dress in bright colors to or own unique style. I don’t know why clothing is dominated by social norms.

I have a lot of cute and bright clothes most of which I can wear in public if my purse and shoes aren’t overly childish. But I made sure to include some plain tops and bottoms. And a few complete outfits that one could wear to church or a job interview.
