does anyone have any job suggestions and diaper alternatives that can be reused? stuck using cloth and it doesnt work well [maybe im not doing something right?] i have no idea how to apply for disability, i tried 2 times and didnt get anywhere. i literally have no clue what im doing. stuck living with parents again and i dont want to mooch off of them, i really do want to work and find a temporary solution. i dont want to burden them, money is already tight for them. the only jobs i ever had were technically undocumented so i essentially don`t have a work history.
Not really much I could help or suggest with, in germany we got at least some basic coverage if we don’t have a job and at least trying to get one, don’t know if this applies to where you live tho. How about your old jobs? I mean the companies you worked for already, could you possibly ask them for a job?
Did you speak with your friends and/or family already, someone has to have a clue what to do I think!?
some no longer exist and others are closed. the only one thats still opened isnt hiring right now. i did talk to a few family members and most of them either don`t know how to help or say to be patient and wait for things to get better
As far as diapers and disability go I have no suggestions however, work is work. Even an under the table job is still a job in a work history. Especially when it’s all you have. Right now though it’s just hard to find a job. It’s probably got nothing to do with what your doing or not doing.
You mentioned cloth isn’t working too well, how are you laundering them? If you use drier sheets/fabric softener it will kill off absorbency. I use original tide and give it a extra rinse and that solved those issues
Do you know people with large gardens or livestock? People who might pay you a little for doing some chores it wouldn’t be much but it could help.
You could also ask about mowing lawns, walking dogs or picking up dog poop. Although that’s typically something neighborhood kids do.
I don’t know what country you’re in but have you looked for local charities like a food bank or seen if your town has a diaper bank? (Yes that’s a thing in larger cities)
You said you were using cloth, are these diapers and rubber pants that you bought somewhere or are they make shift? Because that certainly makes a difference in how they’re put on. And bugmania does have a point about laundering.
i use tide and dryer sheets [ill stop using the sheets] but also used bleach to ``strip`` them on very rare occasion if i cant completely get the smell out
some of the farms here are actually closed down. i never tried walking dogs, that could be interesting, it sounds kind of fun too. were on lockdown, but people still go out walking so it should be fine. we have a food bank but not a diaper bank [but thankfully theres enough food for quite a wile] i`ll try the dog walking and cleanup
Viniger works well for urine smell and is not as hard on the diapers. My wife uses it in my kids sheets and things when they were the bed out their clothes. I wear disposables.
thanks! i`ll try that tonight
The reason that dryer sheets and fabric softener kill absorbency is that they add a very thin coating of wax to the fabric to hold the scent on it as well as reduce the irritation that a coarse fabric would give. If you’ve ever used waxed paper, you know water just rolls off it.
It takes several washings after using one of these products to remove the was to the point you get decent absorbency.
That’s going to be 90% of the issues, wash them 5 or 6 times that will strip the diaper back and bring the absorbency up, I use tide on a sanitary wash (real hot and lots of rinsing) and put them in the drier on hot with no drier sheet and you will find they will be absorbent again.
if I remember right in the how to section on here someone did a test and the difference was shocking
Fabric Softener on Cloth Diapers
Several months ago, I got my first adult cloth diapers (prefolds) from AdultClothDiaper.com and ChangingTimesDiaperCo.com. It was the first time I’d worn cloth diapers since my youth, and…well, they just didn’t seem soft enough! My previous cloth diapers were the ones I’d worn as a baby, and…
This is the one I meant :call_me:
