I’ve kinda sorta enclosed my balcony. I put fabric around the railing, a shelf around the top, a floor made out of those 2’x2’ interlocking foam tiles, planters on top, an irrigation system over the planters, and privacy lattice on the sides.
Lots of other stuff - next is an adjustable clear roof out of 3/4" PVC pipe and clear marine-grade vinyl.
Sooo, I am getting a quilted polyester fabric to finish under the planters. I’ll use leftover floor foam edge pieces (2 joined together) to cover where the fabric attached to the railing’s pickets so from the inside it will look like a giant crib. (It already does with the pickets’ shadows showing through the single layer of Birdseye that’s currently there.)
Uh, I’m a boy. Why should I care about how often the Cootie-Infested have to clean?
Actually, I ‘m considering leaving the current dirty white raggedy cloth there, kind of a already-blended-into-the-neighborhood-and-so-invisible thing. The quilted stuff is one-sided so I could just do the interior side. With the adjustable roof the inside wall should stay pretty clean (other than Littles’ insults!)
I’m attracted to blue, backed by enough to be opaque, for most of the wall and white in the end so light filters through, highlighting the pickets, resulting in a look like a crib in a baby blue nursery.
I took a couple pictures but ADISC’s server has a size limit. I need to compress them somehow. Who’s got an app suggestion?
Oh, and I was looking at Big Z Fabric. White is product 3347 blue is 51433
I’ve got a preliminary plan. I found a wall mural of a photo of the night sky for the ceiling. It’s bigger than my balcony so I can use the extra to wrap half my balcony’s railing/wall and then use quilted fabric for the crib area.
White let’s light through. That just sings to my heart. And the night sky stuff is blue and would clash with the blue quilting. And being a DL and a daddy when big and a “big boy in diapers” when little, it feels right.
I’ll be careful. (Famous last words)
Hmm, what about covering the white quilting with clear plastic? Does it say “nursery” or “grandmother’s couch”?
white would look so good with the wall covering! i am so excited to see the progression of this project! you could use plastic although it can be very uncomfortable on the skin. i would recommend being careful and using bleach when the cover is stained.
