Don't buy cheap! I learnt a lesson

Hey all,

I really am a cheap arse, and so, when I found a UK incontinence store and found they sold adult diapers at as low as 41 pence per diaper, I was curious, could they be ok? Rated capacity was 3600ml… so they should be ok shouldn’t they?

They are Vivactive Slip Super Medium (https://www.incontinencechoice.co.uk/vivactive-slip-super-medium-3600ml-28-pack.html)

Today I learnt a lesson, I was in-between going for a shower, and didn’t want to waste a nice diaper, so decided to give one of these a try…

And put one on, very thin, feels so cheap, and over my time, I needed a wee, first one, no problems at all. Not a lot, not more than normal.

Then about 20 minutes before my shower, I needed another wee, and I still have to stand, suddenly out of no where, I can feel the stream going down my leg, inside my joggies, I screamed, forced a stop, swore a lot, hubby laughed his arse off and very kindly reminded me

“Darling, you get what you pay for, cheap is not always best”

We talked, and like he said to me, these are institutional diapers, so probably designed for those stuck in bed, always laid down, so probably won’t work for me.

Lesson learnt…

Anyone had similar? Anyone found an institutional cheap diaper in the UK that does work?

Probably best to find a chuck you can trust and stick to it. I tried buying some Sainsburys own brand pull ups a few years ago. I wear and use my nappies in public so I wanted to test them at home before I tried wearing them in public. I stood up in the bath and started to wee and almost immediately they started to leek. I might as well of just been wearing normal underwear they were the bad.

I normally just stick to actual brands of adult nappies but I’ve heard from some people on here that aldis own brand ones are good. I’ve not tried them myself as I don’t like buying them in store and if I do I always go through a self scan checkout which aldi don’t have.

I haven’t had that problem. Luckily. … shifts eyes However, I knew my mom once quoted this: “The three things in life should not be bought cheap: Toilet paper, Bacon, and paper towels” This is why we, sadly, have to pay for the good expensive stuff. So hopefully you and I and the rest of us here don’t run into that problem.

I had a similar experience when I ran out of diapers during our last vacation, I had to wear one walmart and one CVS extra large diaper over the walmart diaper for the drive home. it was 2.5 days of worry and of course it was over the thanksgiving holiday weekend so the one place I could have picked up better quality diapers (Atlanta Diaper Depot) was closed.

I learnt a valuable lesson allways over pack and dont try cheaper diapers :frowning:

I’ve used those walmart diapers before. they do not hold on to a lot of pee.

I had wondered about those.

Were they cloth or plastic backed?

They are cloth backed. and they suck. They’ll probably last like 1.5 big wettings.

What brand did you say? Vindictive?

:joy:

Not tried the Vindictive nappies but the Vindictive flex-pants are good for securing bulky nappies.

I luck found (in a pharmacy shop) a bag of Flufsans, they were just about okay and were plastic-backed and like a slightly not good Molicare …it was only ever one bag though as by the time I pursued them online they’d gone cloth-backed.

I recently purchased cheap diapers from smart lifetime.com and the cheap Tena maxi and nateen combi super ultra, these turned out to be very good for their price ^^

hahaha. Good Bacon is a must! I dont know how people eat Turkey Bacon?!?!?

I have tried these Asian brand diapers that were advertised as being very absorbent and they lock away all moisture, turns out they leak after one heavy wetting. They sucked and totally misleading. This is why I always go with 1 pack first to try and always try the new diaper at home before wearing it outside your house.

Also have now tried a step up (51 pence each) iD Expert Slip Maxi Prime Medium (4100ml capacity).

After one wee, the front panel split and the padding fell out in to my onesie, had to change straight away, hardly used and fell apart. I was only sitting at my desk coding…!

I used these for several years until they declined. They were good at first. I never had it rip though but I did have many condense spots, leg leaks, sagging, the tapes no longer hooking to the cotton feel because it came off and they were far too expensive.

I bought them straight from the factory ontex and they charged per case more than any online reseller

Diapers are the one item on our month budget we do not skimp on as I have tried cheaper retail branded diapers and its just not worth the stress of not trusting them to do their job.

I am sorry this happened to you. I really want to go to ATL Diaper Depot when I have a chance. I’m like 30 minutes from them! Found out about them just before lockdown!

Here in Brazil they are not so cheap but they are all like this the only one I like is tena , but sometimes I see a new brand and want to try I always regret but I learn to put one or two baby diapers as booster it does help

Another one to avoid is Novamed. Very thin and can’t handle much wetting.
