Since y’all have time on your hands, disposable diapers on your hands and there’s a shortage of protective facemasks, I challenge you to make facemasks out of your dispies ![]()
They’re largely made from the same materials, so …
Obviously, we’re talking about utilizing the breathable component parts which may account for the breathable outer covers, inner liners, leak guards or breathable sides, etc.
Other enhancing materials may be incorporated into your designs, such as valves (from old masks or from old storage vacuum bags) or polyester fleece materials (as aides to breath vapour collection or just for comfort of fit) or paperclips for nose fitting.
Given the materials likely to be used, plastic welding or bostick/uhu type glues may be needed.
I’d join in, but I’m stuck indoors with mum.
In times gone by, though, I’ve gotten creative along these lines, if just as a matter of adapting adult sized masks to my little features:
That’s an old work mask with some fleece wadding glued around the sides to fill the gaps. The ingrained dirt is diesel soot. It’s still usable, just needing a couple of elastic bands stapling on.
Previous efforts were a case of trial error to get the right mix of simplicity, durability and functionality.
Advisory: such items can be washed (soaked and gently agitated in hot, soapy water and then thoroughly rinsed) and shouldn’t really be worn for lengthy periods as, by their nature of action of reducing airflow and increasing temperature and moisture, their use can promote bacterial infections in the airways and upon the facial area covered.
Now there’s no excuse to be bored ![]()
