I’ve seen the posts, the questions asking, Will the virus make diapers more common/less stigmatized? I never thought that it would actually happen! Well I found an article in the wild (probably not so wild, I mean with Google snooping in on all my searches…) advising people to stock up on diapers to prevent the need to use public toilets. shrug
It would be nice, but I have a worry. Since the pandemic has been roaring through my state, some people have chosen to wear disposable gloves and masks to places like the local grocery store. This is a good idea, to keep themselves, and others, safe. The issue is the disposal. Instead of taking them off in the car and pitching them in their own trash, loads of gloves and masks are just dumped on the ground outside the store. Inconsiderate and really uncool. I have worked enough customer service and retail to know that the person who will be stuck cleaning up that potentially hazardous waste really doesn’t deserve to be in that position.
I worry that the same people who only care about themselves enough to litter would be the same ones dumping used diapers in improper places.
Also, I really hope there isn’t a run on the stuff that we need. It is one thing for someone who uses diapers on a regular basis to stock up, but I don’t want profiteers to buy up diapers and either drive the price up, or make stock scarce. I really don’t want to have to rely on whatever my local drugstores have that day, because I can’t source my go to Abenas. It would be rough knowing that some jerk has a storage unit of diapers that I need, and have to deal with anxiety and the extra laundry.
I might sound rather bitter because I have been a total grumpus for a while.
Same here. People are dumping masks & gloves everywhere but where they belong. Quite immature and rude of folks to do that.
I know I recently saw a post with a similar article (it might have even been the same one) - actually I have heard of such a thing somewhere (forget where) a while ago - mostly due to high population, and lack of public restrooms. We’ll just have to see - if so, I could see (unintended consequence - but welcomed) better diapers being stocked by more stores.
That happened for a short time here - still see it on occasion, but not much now. - HOWEVER, we also had a major advertising campaign in the area explaining how rude that was, AND it’s not just litter, you are actually creating a hazard for the guy that ends up cleaning all that up. It took a while, but finally that slowed down, eventually got to the point if you were seen by anyone doing it, you’d catch h*!l over it, and now - it’s not non-existent, but hardly enough to call it a problem.
“People” already dispose of their baby’s diapers in highly uncouth and inconsiderate locations, there’s little doubt that they would do the same with adult diapers. There may be one benefit from the general public wearing diapers, loaded diapers might reduce the violations of the 6’ social distancing rule. There’s nothing like a loaded diaper to cause a distance to develop between individuals, especially indoors or downwind! Stay padded, but not just because everyone is doing it.
