So here is an issue I have been having because of my wearing 24/7 for over a week now. On the inside of my thighs I am noticing scabbing and sore spots from the diaper rubbing against the spot. Is there some way to avoid this? I know sores can be caused by improper washing but this seems to be an issue of friction. I also don’t have any problems dry but once it’s wet it starts to happen.
I have had this problem but only with one brand.
If you have multiple diaper types try rotating them. Each type will sit differently and you won’t always be rubbing in the same spots.
Make sure the legs are not to tight. They do not have to be really tight to work. The tighter they are the more likely you are to have problems.
I’ve also heard that baby powder can be used to reduce the friction but I have not tried it.
I use baby powder to help with that. I put baby powder on my inner thighs and it reduces chafing from having thicker thighs and reduces the chafing from the diaper. I also put baby powder in the creases of my hip flexors (groin really) to also help with that issue since I have really sensitive skin. I’d try that honestly.
It does tend to happen with a wet nappy, due to weight and sagging. I only find it an issue when I walk a substantial distance when wet.
The best option is to use Vaseline or similar on the areas prone to rubbing. As long as you keep it away from your nappy tapes when changing!
Give me a second vote for petrolium jelly. You only need a thin coat, but gently rub a small amount into the skin first and then apply a thin coating. Also make sure you clean it with soapy water really good every day, after that give the skin some air time to dry out. You can use a fan or hair dryer to reduce that time to minutes too. After that gently rub in some diaper cream (not ointement) to heal it. Later on when you plan on walking around a lot is when you want to apply the vaseline again.
Please note that powder does help with very minor irritation, but I recommend against using it on sore, red or swollen skin. The powder will absorb the moisture from the swollen skin and turn into rubbing compound. And that’s the last thing you want.
So interesting discovery. I wore a northshore so far on the second half of the day, and I don’t feel it cutting into my thighs as much. It may be a better fit on me than the betterdry I love. With the amount of walking I do from class to class I may just go all northshore during the day and leave the betterdry for night.
Or my legs are going numb ::p:
When I change before esports club tonight I’ll find out.
Also powder in the inner thigh helped as well so thanks for that tip.
I’m glad the powder helped! Honestly, a cloth diaper cover or even a thin cloth backed diaper over a plastic backed one might also help with the chafing. It might feel better to have a fabricy soft surface rub against your legs than a plasticy one.
everyone’s got different skin, some people have iron and some have really delicate. I’m toward the delicate end for my inner thighs and have had similar problems as you. For the daytime when you’re going to be standing and moving or walking a lot, consider wearing a thinner diaper that doesn’t have as much bulk in between your legs.
Also consider some treatment to help. I use a light amount of cornstarch on my inner thighs for daytime, and talc in the evening and overnight. IIRC the military recommends for recruits to use vaseline (“petroleum jelly”) to stop friction during basic training, that may work for your diaper area.
Lotions sound like a good idea, but in the end they soften the skin (making it more sensitive to friction) and also tend to dissolve leg gather and leak guard adhesives. So I only apply that (carefully) overnight if my skin’s having other issues.
I find different brands help significantly. Also plastic backed seems to work better.
It possible that you’re leaking slightly around the leg guards, and that’s causing you to chafe. Powder can help, as can petroleum jelly. The other thing to consider is changing more frequently.
I’d recommend maybe doing a onesie and possibly a boxer brief over the diaper. That helps a lot, especially when the diaper sags a little from wetness, onesie keeps it up and boxer briefs sometimes keeps friction down a little. Some also do deodorant on the thighs as well depending on the type of deodorant to reduce friction.
I’m surprised nobody has mentioned body glide. Check it out it works wonders ![]()
