Crinklz/BetterDry, NS MegaMax, and Wicking

Hi, all. Long time no post.

I recently decided to give some of the “super diapers” at NorthShore, just to see what all the fuss what about, and I have to say that so far I’m not impressed. All of these diapers swell where you wet, but then the wetness doesn’t go anywhere. At the point they’ve reached capacity, half the diaper is completely dry and unused. Compared with my normal diaper, the NorthShore Supreme and AirSupreme, which wick the wetness throughout the diaper, these supposedly higher-capacity diapers don’t seem very practical or like a very good value. What am I missing?

I really would like your thoughts on this, as I plan to do a pretty thorough review of them.

I’ve notices that with the mega max’s its a little harder at first for the moisture to wick back to the rear seat area, after a few wettings it almost feels like the diaper will leak from the front, but that when the moisture starts heading to the back. As far as crinklz, I just changed out of my night time one, was really impressed with how far up the diaper wicked, about 2" below from the top rear, thats pretty good in my book.

betterdry doesn’t wick that well, i use them constantly. The only way to get the back part wet is by using a booster.

That seems a little strange to me as I had just the complete opposite experience. I used to wear them years ago and at first was impressed at how well they wicked and how the moisture worked it’s way all around the diaper. The problem became for me was that once it wicked all over it would run over the edge somewhere and then leak, so I quit wearing them.

try the current version and come back to us with your findings  What happens to me with the current ones is the front part gets wet until oversaturated and then leaks, if i’m lucky it leaks to the back of the middle section but usually by that time I really have to change or i’m in for a nasty rash.

Using a booster immediately wicks the moisture all over the place.

I agree the wicking in BettedDry is not great and the front gets saturated first. But once the front gets full though it starts to flow to the back. I only have leaking issues if I’m not wearing a onesie because the weight. These hold a lot of fluid though.

Yes I always find they are better with a booster, my favourite combination in fact.

Betterdry are my favorite because of the massive absorbance relative to price and the ability to wick the moisture very well. Maybe it’s just not a good fit, I don’t know.

Thats so true, I’ve found out that taping these diapers is a little tricky to get the right fit / performance, but I myself and my caretaker have found the best way to tape them and now this diaper works awesomely.

What kind of booster? My experience with most boosters is that they contain a lot of SAP and swell a lot, but don’t wick well. I’ve tried a lot of different kinds and have found that all but the smallest ones are mostly wasted, as they stay dry toward the back. Sounds like you’ve had a really different experience.

I’m wearing a Crinklz right now (might as well use what I have, right?) and will try this. But my experience has been that they’ll leak far before this happens. Thankfully, that wouldn’t be disastrous today.

The non abdl ones, you should only look at medical grade boosters for this , such as the abena abri let maxi or id rectangular etc.

it’s not about adding a lot of extra absorbency, it’s more about spreading it.

All the ones with a lot of SAP are those of ABU, Tykables and they really don’t wick at all.

You are right about that. The small and extra-small boosters from NorthShore are great but anything larger than that…

I tried the Abri-let boosters years ago and thought (at the time) that they were pretty useless. Much later I realized that their all-fluff design would help with wicking. Haven’t tried them lately, though. Maybe I should get some to help make my Crinklz/Better Dry and MegaMaxes more useful.

Crinklz do no wick that well compared to others, I dont pee that fast so its working out for me, I like my rear end to get a little more soggy though and the cloths gets a bit tight from the swelling.

They changed the Abri-let Maxi, dropped the thicker all fluff design and made them thin and added SAP a while back.

They’re still alright to me but not as good at wicking as the nice old fluffy design. Swapped to Rearz boosters when I found out they had a decent amount of SAP and were thick and fluffy out of the pack, almost as fluffy as the old Maxi.

I’ve yet to try MegaMax but I really like the way BetterDry wicks. Actually it’s my favorite because it pulls the moisture around so well I feel relatively dry even when I’m not.

During the day I add a cloth booster to my MegaMax, Tykables, BetteerDay and that really helps the wicking to the rear. They easily get so heavy I cannot stand it. The cloth distributes better than any disposable booster.

That makes a lot of sense. I’ve always had issues with boosters in that they swell to the point of preventing the host diaper of sealing right, or at least on my body. A cloth booster might be something to try.

I’ve been having issues with Crinkles, nice to wear, but depending how I sleep they tend to get over wet in one area then leak. Have been considering going back to Better Dry.

The booster/betterdry combination works very well together
