Love diapers and wearing them but I’ve only worn disposable ones. I love the tight padding and then wetting them and the squishiness I feel being in them.
I’ve never tried wearing cloth ones. For one main reason is that they don’t have the appeal to me that a disposable does and two they don’t seem like they would have the squish that a disposable does.
What is everyone’s thoughts on them? Which do you prefer and why?
Initially I purchased disposables and tried several different brands until I found Abena M-4s which work well for me. As time went on and expenses went up I decided that cloth diapers were very inexpensive for my wife and I diapering our kids and decided to try them for my incontinence as well. The cloth diaper that I settled on was the gauze contour with an included soaker. For nighttime use I also add a folded terry bath towel as a soaker and a folded terry hand towel for a liner day or night. These have all but taken the place of the Abenas. The only time that I wear a disposable now is if I’m going to be away from home for an extended period or if I’m out of clean cloth diapers. It makes a big difference that I have my own home with a washer and dryer, although I would love to have a clothesline to be able to sun dry and disinfect my washed diapers. When I used to live in the country I could’ve done this without telegraphing to the neighborhood that I wear diapers but I’m not sure what, if anything would be the result of them knowing. Stay padded (whatever type you decide on).
I was imprinted with toddler diapers in the late eighties - white, plastic backed, crinkly. That’s the thing and will remain until I become disposable landfill myself.
I like disposible, cloth seems more of a commitement (have never tried) lol imagine cleaning it and someone sees it in the wash *if you live with people
I use both types of diapers. At first I did not do well with cloth diapers. Most of the diapers I had purchased were flannel diapers (which were the material used by my mother) and I was not layering them. Once I figured out how many layers I needed I was happier with them.
When I had a discussion about cloth diapers with another member on here I was pointed toward twill and gauze material. I tried twill diapers and I was in awe. They certainly were more comfortable than flannel. I have not tried gauze diapers.
Cloth diapers are more work and require washing. I stick to wearing them on weekends only when I can do laundry. That may change when retirement comes and I am home during the week.
Disposables certainly have the “squishy” factor cloth diapers do not. Maybe that is why there is a preference for disposable diapers with the “DL” group. Being more of a “AB” I am not partial to either and will wear both. After all, a little one will wear what they are put into unless given that choice. Of course the choice might only be, this colour or that colour…
I think people tend to like the diapers they grew up with. My generation was cloth and plastic pants and that’s my go to diaper. I do occasionally wear disposables though because I’ve seen plenty of babies in those as well. Sometimes disposables are so much more convenient and easier on the skin because they absorb.
My generation was plastic backed disposable so that’s mainly what I prefer. Cloth is an interesting thought to me to mainly try out of novel curiosity.
Thats exactly my thought on this debate(cloth vs disposable) all I know are the crinkly white plastic ones I wore as a child. I never wore any cloth diapers, so I never developed an appeal to them. Im sure they are very soft and thick when wearing them though.
You can acheeve with one large towel and large pins an effect you’d have to wear at least three standard adult nappies to get
…that is proper cloths only good feature!! I’ve tried them but without plastic pants - I’ve never bought plastic pants that’d feel like too much of a commitment - and without plas’ pants you can’t full bladder wet …it never ends well!!
