Cloth diaper recommendations?

I’m thinking of getting into cloth diapers, I have researched all that I need to about them. I Haven’t seen any other cloth diapers that are not from rearz and am heavily considering the omustu diaper. What I am really looking for is functionality, cute print, absorbency, and bulkiness. The rearz omustu fits all of these requirements but am still open to other diapers that might be better then the omustu. I’m very inexperienced with pre folds so that is out of the question but everything else will probably work fine (snap-on, Velcro). Btw I have no idea what soap I’m supposed to use for washing them sooo if someone could point that out it would be very appreciated!!!

A Canadian company: Kins (babykins.com) has a full range of cloth diapers in different styles, colors, and patterns. I use some of their products and am pleased with the products. Prices are reasonable and I remember the ship time to be good, but I don’t know currently with the Covid-19 situation if any of that has been impacted. Their website should also have their phone number–toll-free. Hope this helps.

Do you know which ones I should be looking for? Thanks I’m going to check them out

Check out Ecoable as well. Nice products and look a lot like current baby diapers. Stock is thin right now but I’m hoping they get more in soon.

As far as washing pretty much any detergent will do as long as there is no bleach or softeners in it. You can use oxyclean or similar products but only in small amounts. Dish liquid is good for getting out buildup of oils and regular detergents and helps with stains too. Washing instructions from the manufacturer should be followed as close as possible. Most have full instructions on their websites. There are also lots of suggestions for washing cloth diapers on youtube.

I like Ecoable (https://www.ecoable.net) cloth diapers and Superundies https://www.superundies.com Ecoable is out of a lot of products at this time due to Covid-19 but it sounds like they should be restocked in a few weeks if you can wait. Both companies make adult products that are exactly like their Kids products just bigger. If you see a superundies print you like in the kid size but not offered in the adult size send them an email or call them and ask if they can do a special order for you.

Awesome thanks! Also are adult cloth diapers the same as baby ones when it comes to washing? Since there is more tutorials on baby ones instead of adult ones.

Sounds like they have good customer service.

Yes. Washing will be very similar but differs depending on the materials used. Just make sure the baby diaper in the tutorial closely matches the ones you end up with.

Ecoable is amazing except for the sizing. Theirs are some of the best made cloth diapers I’ve used, but their largest size, “extended,” basically equates to a medium in terms of rise, and the fitteds shrink quite a bit. I got to enjoy mine a couple of times, and then they no longer fit. I was extremely bummed. But if you’re on the small side, go for it!

Rearz is an ethically challenged company. I’ve got a couple of their prefolds as well as their Super Snap fitteds, and they’re great. In recent years, though, they’ve made a bad name for themselves, stiffing their artists, trying to trademark “ABDL,” and using literal garbage for packing material. I hesitate to order from them nowadays.

KINS prefolds are best avoided, but I haven’t tried any of their other diapers. The pull-ons don’t do anything for me.

DideeQueen on eBay and DependEco are a couple of other makers of all-in-ones. I haven’t tried DideeQueen yet, but will be doing so shortly. Of the two, hers are easily the most babyish in terms of design. DependEco’s stock sizing didn’t work at all for me, but the owner is super nice to work with and will do custom sizing and fabric. If you go the DependEco route and you’re after thick, you’ll want one of the purpose-made boosters. By themselves, the DependEco diapers aren’t especially absorbent.

I really like my DependEcos, but they’re mostly custom, and it took a few tries (=$$) to get there.

I recently auditioned one of the Dotty Diaper Company fitted cloth diapers–very thick, and I love the look of them. Unfortunately the quality was unimpressive. The stitching, particularly on the Velcro tabs, was just embarrassingly sloppy. Some of the seams just completely missed their targets and left me wondering how long the tabs would last. If not for the execution of these, I’d recommend them, because the fit, feel, and function are excellent. Frustrating! (These do require a waterproof cover.)

All that said, I mostly wear Changing Times prefolds with pins. I’m an old-school baby.

Thank you! I didn’t even know about some of these brands and it is sad to see rearz deteriorate with some of their choices.

Ok sounds good. Are cloth boosters the same as washing cloth diapers? I’m also going to look at cloth boosters.

Booster pads are usually pretty easy. I’d suggest avoiding microfiber boosters, though, as they tend to get stinky. Lots of good choices, but my favorites are from Changing Times. They’re plain cotton twill, and clean up very nicely. That said, if you go with something like an AIO or fitted diaper from Ecoable, you might prefer one of their boosters because they’ll (probably) have snaps for securing them into the diaper. I haven’t had much trouble with booster pads moving around, even without snaps or Velcro holding them in place, but some people apparently do.

One general comment about washing cloth diapers and related items: It may be hard to believe, but one occasionally runs into a cloth diaper that can’t be put in a clothes dryer–“line dry only.” Best avoided, for obvious reasons, unless you don’t have a clothes dryer and don’t mind waiting absolutely forever for your diaper to dry. It’s one thing to line-dry a prefold or flat diaper. Those don’t have a waterproof layer built in, so the moisture escapes much more quickly. Try line-drying an AIO, though. That really only works out if you have a lot of them. In short, always consult the care instructions before ordering to make sure you’re not setting yourself up for a hassle.

Thank you this helps a lot!

Be sure to share your adventures (and misadventures) here once you get to buying and trying.

Sure will.

Here is a great site for washer settings when washing your diapers. They have many models that you can search by to get the right wash for your dirty diapers.

Thank you.

I use ecoables and have had no real issues with them so far. I use a variety of boosters, some from ecoable, some from other sites. They come in a lot of cute patterns.

just be warned cloth is a lot bulkier than disposables when it comes to getting the same absorbancy. Like it’s a little off-putting at first, because cloth doesn’t “compress” like disposables do, and it feels weird at first.

I’ve tried all kinds of cloth diapers over the last 10 years. Many of them I still have and are in my changing rotation. TRY PREFOLDS…they are great! Get some large diaper pins (4in.) . Add a nice pair of playtime plastic pants and your good to go. I have been buying from Changing Times Diaper Co. https://www.changingtimesdiaperco.com/collections/diaper-fasteners they are super. Make sure you wash them first that activates the absorbancy and the are great. Get some inserts as well…good luck!

Thanks! I don’t really know how to fold the pre folds but I will look it up.
