Recently I’ve thought about buying some cloth diapers instead of a big stash of disposable ones. However, besides basic questions I had, some specific ones crossed my mind. I’m AFAB, and was wondering if any others on here could possibly help me by answering these questions for me.
So women and those with a uterus, have any of you used cloth diapers during your cycle? If so, how well do they clean? Do they stain just like normal underwear do?
Thank you for taking your time to read this and possibly answer. And I’m sorry if these questions seemed a bit too personal. I’m just trying to get the most info i can before I buy just so I make a well informed decision.
I’m a guy, and can’t speak with any authority on uteri and their cycles, but I’ll suggest a few things:
Consider a diaper with dark (or black) padding, or use a black booster pad (e.g.: https://ecoable.net/teen-adult-Incontinence-cloth-diapers-/)
Follow best practices for washing blood out of clothing (Google says rinsing first with cold water is critical)
Try to convince yourself that it’s not a big deal to have stains on diapers. They are, after all, meant to get “stuff” on them.
Diaper fabrics vary, but in general I’d assume that diapers are just as likely to take up menstrual stains as anything else, and plan accordingly.
As a longtime cloth diaper user who also cloth-diapered his kids, I’ve done a lot of reading on the subject and a lot of my own exploring. One thing that seems to divide the cloth diaper world is whether one should bother doing anything about stains. As a parent, I couldn’t imagine spending time getting poop stains out of a diaper that was going to be pooped on again immediately. That said, if menstrual flow is the only source of stains you’ll be subjecting your diapers to, I guess I could rationalize a little extra care in washing diapers during “that time.” (But I’d probably still favor a diaper with dark padding. Out of sight, out of mind!)
I use cloth and have stained a few. I typically use tampons with the cloth diapers while on my cycle, but the few that have been leaked on do have stains
I am a male but i have a wife that had issues like that. i got her reusables on her bad days. we either used disposable liners in a cloth diaper/diaper cover or we used a colored/black liner. i agree. follow the blood/body fluid cleaning methods. the color may remain in whites or light colors but as long as they sanitize, they are fine. I had white ones with stains from urinary medications (blue stains) but i sanitize washed them and they were fine.
no one will see them besides you when you “equip” them lol
