Can't seem to wet the back

I never had this problem before, probably because I rarely use any booster prior to this. I can’t wet the back unless I try to. So in my home country, adult incontinence product is very limited. When I was in America years ago, I found a thing called booster, and I absolutely love them. So I tried to find some in here and found none, but some days ago I did find something similar, its an insert but disposable. This thing is smaller than average booster but it swells so much. As they are advertised as “insert” (supposed to take them out and just replace them when its full) it doesn’t have a 2 way water kinda thing, so naturally I made slits on the bottom and the those absorbent gell is so much inside that some of them came out when I cut them with cutter. I just got used to this and I realized that they don’t fill up the back, its more like 60% filled from the front, the rest 40% on the back is still white. Mind you I also always had my pp faced down, and yes I cut all the things around it so it just looked like a booster. Also I don’t think the slits are the problem because it went through fine, it just doesnt go further back.

Did anyone ever has this problem? Or maybe have a solution? I really have no idea how to counter this. Thanks

I do have the same problem. If the front is getting full and dont have an extra, I just un-tape them and put them on backward.

From personal experience: wetting your diaper’s back isn’t easy, unless you are on your back and void a lot. My grandkids would soak their diapers completely when they were infants (that’s what infants do :face_with_hand_over_mouth:) but once in toddlerhood, the backs of their diapers seldom got soaked. Same with me: if I’m laying back, open my legs and soak/flood my diaper, it still focuses on the middle. No clue as to why…when I was 14/15, I could soak my modified Pampers thoroughly.

Same with me and Goodnites/Drynites. It’s seldom do the backs ever get wet. Sometimes I might get lucky; other times not so much.

Thing is, this only happen when I use the modified insert. I’m starting to think its because of the diaper ingredients. After reading some stuff I found that the SAPolymer is the one that actually do a lot of the absorbing, some have a quick absorbtion and some also better at locking the fluids so it doesnt squeeze out. I think that my insert has way too much of SAP that it keep on absorbing.

Yeah I think above is the reason, and my diaper itself is mostly made out of tiny amount of SAP thats why they spread nicely.

Lower SAP nappies are better for that retro “wet bottom” feeling.

I can recommend Molicare Slip Maxi for that!

I seldom wear them these days, but M4s are great for this. It’s the one thing I really miss since moving to mostly Rearz diapers, which get a lot more bottom-heavy but don’t usually get the satisfying wet bottom feel.

The only way to get most of the back wet is to aim my hose down, lay down and lift bum up off the floor or bed and let go. Have to make sure you pee flows over body to the back and not into middle of diaper. Most times when I do a diaper change my back is dry from back down to bum.

That’s exactly why. SAP absorbs liquid, whereas the wood pulp fibers wick liquid. Diapers with a high concentration of SAP won’t wick nearly as well. If you want to transport liquid to the back, try using a cloth baby diaper as a booster.

Ugh. So relatable, right? It feels like a waste of diaper ;-;

Ah, started going while lying down and for me, the back seems to get fairly wet, but like Irnub says its the wood pulp to SAP ratio. SAP holds liquid in while the pulp provides a stable matrix where liquid is distributed and held until it can be absorbed by the SAP.

SAP is just a descriptor for the group of industrial chemicals that absorb a ton of water. So as you can imagine, there’s quite a few types that are determined by your diaper manufacturer, so not all pulp/SAP mixs will act the same even if they have the same ratio.

The trick is to overflow the pulp and SAP, either by completely flooding your diaper in a single sitting or wearing the same diaper and using it so much, there’s no place for the liquid to go but back.

Thing is, for the second method, most diapers, feel like you’re sitting in a puddle if you get that far since the wet SAP is so loaded that any pressure will cause it to release some liquid.

Some diapers have a long wide blue strip going down the middle of the inside which aids in wicking away and distributing, which means you have to soak it even further to get to the back.

This kinda sucks since diapers all have subtle differences while all functioning the same. One of the subtle differences being whether you can wet up the back easier.

I recommend laying on your back and letting gravity do most of the work and try a brand that has a high SAP to pulp ratio (like Crinklz) since those tend to be easier to overflow.

Good luck!

Point down of course, but you have to get your diaper folded into a “V” in the bottom. I see pics all the time of people that snug up their diapers and have this upward curve in the crotch, with their diaper snug against their body. That may be comfy for daytime wear, but it’s going to be terrible for leaks!

(I’ve seen worse, but they’re hard to find, picture that last one but where the middle was horizontal instead of a little downward bulge)

I’m in a diaper for 12 to 14 hours everyday and I have zero problems wetting the back.

I just thought it was normal to only wet the front surely the backs to contain mess. Even when I’ve got a full nappy it would normally leak before filling up the back seems to be a gravity thing

This works, especially when I go skiing all day in an M4 (with plastic underpants as backup). I can lay back on the snow and let go quite heavily and it pools around the front to overflow to the back. Never had an M4 leak on me but it does get quite saturated after 8 hours and 2 -3 major floods during the day. All the way to the back. Best skiing I have ever done not having to go to the lodge restroom 2x during the day. Plus I can drink extra water so the lactic acid does not build up in my muscles. This would have been good to have and know when I was in college and took ski trips with friends on weekends.

Pictures tell a thousands words - thanks for the training session Bambinod!

I’ll definitely try this, but the v usually does it self when its getting full or sogging and its not quite comfortable. although i dont understand the 3rd pic, is it a good thing or bad?

You ski in diapers too? I thought I was the only one who found this convenient. I started doing it about 7 years ago. Although, I have no daytime issues, i do have an ample supply of night time diapers and plastic pants in my dresser. It is such a nuisance to find a bathroom and to get unbundled for a pee while skiing all day. I generally will use the bathroom when i go in for lunch, but use the diaper otherwise while staying really hydrated. By the time I get in at end of day, my diaper is plenty full.

I thought that it was padded in the back so it would collect for women, and laying back.

There are a lot of items on this subject if you search for it. Quite common to wear diapers for skiers.
