Boy tomboy

Now i think everyone knows what a tomboy is but is there a male version of that lable, i know sissy fits the lable, ive heard sissygirl but imo thats not quite right as sissy isnt really a girls name, ive also heard nancy but never nancey girl which would work since nancey is agirls name and i heard tomgirl, which is just lazy and makes no sence.

What does everyone think? What would be the male version of tomboy? What have you heard? Imo nanceygirl would be the correct opposite of tomboy

sissy would be the equivent though the issue there is the unwritten stigma of using it as an insult

There’s a quite interesting thread about this question at AVEN forums (external link):

Male equivalent of “tomboy”?

I also don’t think that there’s an appropriate/ non-insulting male equivalent.

I recently saw a boy who likes dressing in stereotypically female clothes describe himself as a “femboy”, so maybe that? Is that insulting? It doesn’t feel like an insult, but there is a chance I am missing some context here.

I dont think there would be one that isnt insulting since society has deemed ok for girls to act like boy, but condemn boys who act like girls

Sad but true.

Nancy Boy is a term. Though it is dated. It was used around the 1950s as another word for a homesexual male. Nancy Girl I think does fit as a term for a feminine boy, but I’ve never heard it used like that. I wouldn’t mind coining the phrase.

I have heard (and previously used) the terms Jane Girl and Jessie though not sure of the lexicology of either.

The boy version of a tomboy is usually sissy boy or girly boy. Tomgirl is used to describe the same thing as the other two i listed, but it’s not a very common term. However it directs to more of a boy behaving in a girlish manner. If you wanted to you could just use crossdresser, but that’s pretty neutral (unless you want that). The word “sissy” doesn’t define a girl’s name but rather the short usage of “sister” and “sis.” It was just used as a way to offend boys who didn’t act, behave, dress, and look boyish/manly. For other boys looking it’s basically like “Hey, that boy acts and dresses like my sister does. He’s a sissy!” If you get the idea here.
