Any ideas to save articles?

Somebody should consider saving off articles and archiving them somewhere that is accessible after this site is down.

I think it will be horrible if all the stories and articles end up deleted from existence.

Was just thinking about this. What about the Wayback Machine? It has been around just to archive old sites and webpages.

Moo already mentioned this in another thread.

Replying to a bunch of things in random order:

ADISC is not any sort of business, not even a sole proprietorship. It is just a personal project.

You shouldn’t be making snide remarks either, especially when you don’t understand the situation.

“No, I’m telling you that you are very explicitly not allowed to.” His words.

If you have favorite articles or stories, I don’t think Moo will object to your saving them (going there in your browser and doing a Save As). I think his “not allowed to” comment is specifically about pointing bots or scripts at the site and copying large chunks of it. ADISC is excluded from the Wayback Machine.

Perhaps it would be useful to make a shutdown section in the forum for the remaining days and collect all related content there. Now there are some in off-topic, in adult diapers, here, there, everywhere. I already can’t remember what is where. Also its purpose could be to post interesting old topics you found and to ask others for topics you remember, but cannot find. This place is huge.

So, there’s no way to save the huge story archives, its a shame to loose so many gem stories that were never published anywhere else.

I see a couple of new topics appeared on DD with exactly the same title as here. I think it’s also a way to preserve the ADISC spirit, at least by continuing the running discussions somewhere else. It also probably helps people to settle in there. I hope this tendency and the increased traffic won’t upset the old users on that site.

I think it’s perfectly okay to copy-paste your own content to a different forum to preserve it, but only if it’s yours.

I saved off a selection of articles, just in case those articles never end up on another site.

Whatever you save make sure it’s posted in multiple locations. Can’t ever let this happen again.

It will be so sad to see the stories go. There are already so many lost from a decade ago that I occasionally think of and want to reread.

I now have the ebook library and book search system working on my internal web server. I have the storage space for archiving the stories, what I don’t have is the means to download and strip the message board post in an EPUB format

Posts, including stories, should only be archived by their actual authors.

Mass copying of other peoples’ content is not OK, regardless of the intentions behind doing so.

The only exception to this is articles, which I am ok with being archived. Nothing else, though.

Copying things you didn’t create is disrespectful and probably illegal.

Copying stories is strictly for an ADA purpose. I use TTS software due to my disability and need to convert most items in Word, epub, or txt for the screen reader. I do this so I can enjoy the stories and articles without the unnecessary txt, emojis, or symbols. Wait till you have a screen reader say greater than 10 times or emoji multiple times, it breaks the flow. So I am guilty of spelling, grammar, checking them, and making them readable. I never take any credit for what I do, it’s all for personal needs, and it takes me hours to prep a story that has to be cut and pasted into a doc and then edited

It’s sad some authors have passed awayI know this has happened being the time they were here long ago.

That’s always the problem if people don’t want to think about copyright.

Most people don’t have an economic interest in their stories, but they want to be attributed and be known for their work, and they don’t want modifications.

Lots of stuff could be under a creative license, and then the stories could be copied. But so - it’s gone. Something for the new sites to consider.
