Okay so I seem to be in the middle of medium and small Megamax but there are issues I have with both. I was using mediums and always had a problem getting the legs to fit snugly no matter what I did. Included in my last case of mediums I was given a sample of a small for some reason but it fit nice and snug so when I finished my mediums I then ordered a case of smalls and even though they fit more snug there was less padding so I did not have as much capacity as the mediums but at least they didn’t leak out of the leg openings.
So now I just got a case of mediums again and on my second diaper I remembered why I went to the smalls. No matter how tight I tape the legs there is still looseness and I think it is because the tapes are too high up the end of the leg opening. I also ordered a pack of Crinkles and those fit great so I don’t think it has anything to do with my body style. I am at my ideal weight so thats not the issue. Does anyone else have this problem? I am thinking I may just ditch these all together after this case and just stick with Crinkles But I really think those bottom tapes need to be just above the edge of the diaper not an inch and a half up or maybe it’s the contour of the diaper itself. Any suggestions would be appreciated but I’ve tried taping in different spots as well. I just can’t seem to wrap it around my leg and make a tight seal. The waist is perfect though. Also, the tapes themselves seem to be way better than my last case.
It sounds like you’re right in between sizes. Keep in mind though that the leg openings themselves don’t need to be tight (the diameter of your leg at the leg opening changes as you flex different muscles), it’s the elastic leak guards inside that creates the seal.
There’s also elastic around the leg openings which should create a seal but they are loose no matter how I tape them. I still Think it’s because the tape needs to be near the opening, not away from it. I would agree with you if they didn’t leak out of the legs and other diapers don’t. These are supposed to be 12 hour diapers and should not leak at all like that until close to being saturated.
it sounds like you are really on the cusp of sizes. if you like your megamax’s in the medium i would recommend a pair of plastic pants. they should hold everything close to you while containing any possible leaks… i have this problem too, i tend to be in the middle of a few diaper brand’s sizes.
Capacity is the trade off for size variations. While I do like the megamax i dont love the price (I’m frugal). Betterdry/Crinkles are a better price so if you like them I would suggest you get them. There are other brands out there that are just as good as MM for a better price you just have to look
This seems to be a question of design philosophy with the bottom tapes. Some diapers put the bottom tape in the middle of the wing (such as bambino and most of ABU) and others put the lower tape very near the bottom of the back wing. (rearz, dink rawrs, crinklz) i personally prefer the bottom tape in the middle, so I prefer the fit I get with the MegaMax.
Confidry 247 and Crinklz seem to have the biggest tape separations. I struggle to get a comfortable fit with them because I like the lower tapes stuck higier on the front, just an inch below the upper tapes usually, and that makes a weird fold in the lower wing.
I have this problem with some brands of diaper too. I think when you’re between sizes a wide crotch makes it particularly difficult to get a tight fit in the legs. Different diapers are cut differently and fit differently due to the tapes/ thickness/ cut etc and if you’re close to the cusp between sizes you may be a S in some brands (Eg: Megamax) and a M in others (Eg: Crinklz). This is definitely the case for me. Some brands of diapers will also fit your body style better than others too - the sizes tend to correlate with waist size but hips, bum and thighs will all effect the fit as well. For example if you have skinny thighs it will be harder to get a tight fit with a larger diaper than if you have chunky thighs.
If the small Megamax don’t have enough capacity but the medium leak then I would just accept that the MegaMax obviously aren’t the diaper for you and go for a different brand - if you don’t get the problem with Crinklz it sounds like they are more suited to your body shape and size.
Yes, but that seal has no absorbent material backing it and so any liquid stopped by it will work its way out as your leg moves around. The leak guards, however, have the entirety of the diapers absorbent material behind them. They only have to hold back liquid for a short amount of time until the diaper can absorb it.
All of that said, if you’re in between sizes such that it’s not a good fit, crinklz/betterdry has as much, if not more, capacity for like 50% less and a different size range.
I tape my bottom two tapes below the landing strip at a angle down. This makes a tighter seal against the legs. The tapes always stick fine and never come loose. The top of course I put on the landing strip. They will leak a lot sooner if I don’t do this but I have very little complaints about there diapers when I use them like this. I used secure X plus for may years they fit almost the exact same and I started doing this with them I just kept on when I went to the mega max. I hope this will help you some.
Their Supreme line has tighter leg holes. You could give them a shot. I think the NS website actually talks about that in their diaper fit/comparison guide on the page. In my experience the wings are wide, rise is tall as medium megamax, but leg holes are smaller.
I, too am in between sizes, and wear the small. I’d rather not leak, and plus, the waistband itches my back in the medium because of the higher rise.
